Auribeau-sur-Siagne

Splendid village perched between the Frayère and the Siagne, Auribeau-sur-Siagne reveals to the visitor its rich historical past, along the winding alleys and squares.

Listed in the inventory of picturesque sites of the Alpes Maritimes, its high rampart houses, its two portals, the Soutran and the Soubran, which defended it at the time, its streets in coves or stairs, give Auribeau-sur-Siagne an exceptional cachet.

Founded in the 12th century, the town was abandoned and devastated by the plague and wars at the end of the Middle Ages. In 1497, the lord of the time, who was also bishop of Grasse, called on inhabitants of the Ligurian coast to repopulate him.

From the church square, the view is endless, on the wooded hills of the Siagne, the city of Grasse and its Pre-Alps, the peak of Courmettes and the Valbonne plateau.

The essentials

The sanctuary of Notre Dame de Valcluse

Located in a shady setting at the foot of a wooded hill, crossed by the Saint-Antoine River on the edge of which a picnic area is set up, this site remarkably combines nature and spirituality.

The parish church

The parish church of Auribeau-sur-Siagne testifies to the influence of the abbey of Lérins in the history and culture of the region. It was built between 1717 and 1722. Like many buildings in the Pays Grassois, it offers a sober exterior architecture, with a semicircular apse on the bedside and a bell tower on the facade. Inside, a grandstand occupies the first span.

The Soubran portal

The Soubran portal is the access door to enter the old village of Auribeau-sur-Siagne. This fortified door in 16th century stones, introduces the rue du Portail, the main street of the municipality from which, narrow alleys with flowery stairs go up towards the church square.
